Featured Fort Lauderdale
This weekend is the Tortuga Music Festival - a big deal every year. And traffic, oh the traffic will be a thing down by the beach!
Hereās the Free (and Fascinating) Part of Tortuga Music Festival.
Most people know Tortuga as a country music blowout on Fort Lauderdale Beach. What fewer families realize: the Conservation Village is free-entry and genuinely worth a visit on its own.
Over 20 nonprofits run booths with VR shark dives, sea turtle education, coral reef demos, and hands-on marine science, right on the sand.
If your kids are curious about the ocean (and whose aren't, living here?), this could be the coolest Saturday afternoon of April.
So... You Think You Know Florida
You probably already know... the ocean and waterways of Fort Lauderdale are a big part of what we do here.
What you might not know... Fort Lauderdale Has More Canals Than Venice, Italy.
You probably already know Fort Lauderdale is called the Venice of America. What you might not know is that the city has over 165 miles of navigable inland waterways ā more than Venice, Italy, and more than any other American city.
The canal system wasnāt natural; it was hand-dug starting in the 1920s during a Florida land boom. The result is that thousands of Fort Lauderdale homeowners have boats in their backyard where a car would sit in most cities.

Quote Of The Week
āThe most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.ā ~ Coco Chanel
Gabrielle āCocoā Chanel (1883ā1971) transformed fashion by rejecting the rigid, corseted styles of her era and replacing them with comfortable, practical clothing that gave women freedom of movement. She built one of the most enduring fashion houses in history, entirely on her own terms, in an era when that was nearly unthinkable for a woman.
Flotsam & Jetsam
Hereās a fun test. Can you tell what the color of this dot is? Which one?
Thereās a story behind this test.
While examining a flight map on his smartphone last August, Hinnerk Schulz-Hildebrandt stumbled upon a peculiar visual phenomenon. He observed that the planeās trajectory line seemed to fluctuate in color, shifting between purple and blue, based entirely on his gaze.
When he looked directly at the line, it appeared purple, but when viewed through his peripheral vision, it transformed into a blue hue.
Intrigued by this, Schulz-Hildebrandt, who works as a biomedical optics researcher at Harvard Medical School, investigated the occurrence further. His findings led to the creation of a new optical illusion, recently featured in the journal Perception, which highlights the fluid nature of how we process color.
The illusion displays nine purple dots set against a blue backdrop; for viewers with standard color vision, the specific dot being focused on maintains its purple appearance, while the surrounding dots appear to blend into the blue background.
Word Play Of The Week
āNo spring chickenā
A lighthearted way to say someone is no longer young ā usually said as āIām no spring chicken, but I can still keep up!ā
In colonial-era farming, spring-hatched chickens commanded a premium at market ā young, tender, and fresh. By the 1700s the phrase migrated into everyday speech to describe anyone past their youthful prime. Perfect for Easter week, when chickens are very much on the mind. ~ āSource
